Vineyard and Soil: Beacon Hill Vineyard is located on a Southeast facing slope at an elevation of 250-300 feet. The Vineyard has been farmed sustainably since 2005, and is “LIVE” Certified.
Vintage Notes: Overall, the timing of the 2011 growing season was not typical for Oregon. Very late bud break and bloom. Cool growing season which forced to let fruit hang well into November in order to ripen.
Harvest: The 6.5 acres of a combination of 30 year old, 14 year old, and 7 year old vines were harvested the second week of November with small evidence of botrytis.
Vinification and Aging: After harvesting, the grapes were gently whole cluster pressed and slowly barrel fermented in both stainless steel and French oak barrels in a cool cellar maintained at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Malolactic fermentation was completed before bottling, the barrels were racked to tank and filtered. The finished wine saw 1 barrel of stainless steel, 15% new oak and the balance of neutral oak for the overall 10 months of fermentation and aging.
Description: This wine has very pretty aromas of white flowers, honey, and ripe yellow apple. This theme follows through on the palate with honey crisp apples, bosc pear, hints of vanilla and pastry. The month feel is seductively soft, dense with tree and subtle citrus tones, carrying with it an intensely elegant acid line. This Burgundian-styled wine can be equally enjoyed on its own or with a meal.
