Formerly known as Quail Hill Vineyard, this highly regarded estate was purchased by Bill & Sheila Blakeslee in 2005. The Blakeslee Vineyard Estate has been producing top quality Pinot Noir Fruit for over 14 years. The vines are planted in Laurelwood soil (a powdery volcanic soil) atop a hard clay sub-soil. The combination of soils along with the Dijon 115 and Pommard clones of Pinot Noir, and our expert vineyard management results in a unique and distinctive wine.
Overall, the timing of the 2010 growing season was not typical for Oregon. A very late spring bud break, bloom was late June and we only experienced 2/3rds the normal heat days of other vintages. The cool summer required further time and patience to wait for flavors to catch up in the ripening process. Picking was 2 weeks later than other Oregon vintages.
The “Willamette Valley” Pinot Noir released from Blakeslee Vineyard Estate, is 100% Estate Pinot Noir, 65% pommard 35% Dijon 115. All Chehalem Mountains, AVA. Bright red fruit, aromas of cherry, strawberry, and red currents, as well as subtle vanilla oak, dried rose petals, and steely minerals are found on the nose. Flavors on the palette include concentrated raspberry preserves, well-integrated oak spices, and notes of cinnamon orange peel and currents. Texturally, there is a welcoming round fore-mouth and pleasant supple middle that finishes with beautiful fruit and spice.
