Appellation/Region: Yamhill-Carlton AVA, Oregon

 

Vineyard and Soil: Beacon Hill Vineyard is located on a Southeast facing slope at an elevation of 250-300 feet.  The Vineyard has been farmed sustainably since 2005, and is “LIVE” Certified.

 

Vintage Notes: Overall, the timing of the 2012 growing season was typical for Oregon. Mid April bud break and early June bloom. There was a normal too hot growing season which allowed the fruit to ripen nicely to desired Brix of 24.5.

 

Harvest: The 6.5 acres of a combination of 30 year old, 14 year old, and 7 year old vines were harvested October 19, 2012 with no evidence of botrytis.

 

Vinification and Aging: After harvesting, the grapes were gently whole cluster pressed and slowly barrel fermented in both stainless steel and French oak barrels in a cool cellar maintained at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Malolactic fermentation was completed before bottling. The barrels were racked to tank and filtered. The finished wine was 4% fermented in stainless steel, 96% fermented in oak. (25% new and the balance of neutral oak).
